J.D. Vance is forty? That is incredible to me. He looks like hell. A jog, maybe? Kale? I really thought he had to be late fifties.
Made the mistake this morning of watching yesterday's press conference from the Oval Office with Zelenskyy, Trump, and Vance. Those are the two "leaders" that a country now so awash with idiocy deserves. Or it's what a country awash in idiocy gets. That was like high school. Two low-life morons thinking they're amazing and cool ganging up to bully this guy for whom English isn't even a first language and he speaks it better than they do. Good for Zelenskyy for not taking any bait. You can't win when you take bait.
What a national embarrassment Trump and Vance are. Trump is worse now than he was the first time around. The Musk factor is a big reason, but also his new vice president. Watching Trump slump forward in his chair like some walrus with bad posture starting to slide off the thing is at least an apt visual for someone whose existence is a matter of perpetually lowering themselves.
Doing the two-against-one thing is what pussies do. Or I guess I should say cowards. Eh, pussy is still the right word, though. And the two of them flapping their hands around and jabbing their fingers in the air like the most arrogant, ignorant fools. If someone is doing that with their hands while they're talking, they are almost always an idiot. Try it as a test. Yes, I know, your beloved, loud, streetwise Italian aunt talks with her hands. I mean generally. You'll see what I mean.
That press conference actually reminded me a lot of sports talk radio, where two idiots--the hosts--get together ahead of time and decide on a script/approach, doing the lowest common denominator thing. Like what Felger and Maz do. Which is bad enough. But then on this stage?
We don't actually have to be idiots. That's what so many people get wrong. They blame attention spans, the educational system, technology. And those are factors. But a big factor, too, is the constant serving up of idiocy. If anyone can be intelligent, how about they try doing that, and we'll see what happens? Right now, our world is just a buffet of idiocy. There's nothing else on offer. You can't say that someone wouldn't enjoy putting something smart on their plate, so to speak, if there was anything like that in the buffet island as well. How would you know?
These two men are like C- high school assholes. But, I guess, if they were high school kids like that then maybe they'd be good at sports until their career came to an end with graduation and here you have two human lard piles. Arrogant dumb people are the worst--look at so much of publishing, for example. In publishing, it's a different kind of cowardice. Run away and hide cowardice, and then bad mouth about someone in back channels to like-minded fellow cowards and lock the arms and discriminate that way. Whereas, with Trump and Vance, they can do outward bluster. Trump will do it on his own, while Vance prefers to do it with Trump.
There's no shame, no conscience, no awareness, no concern for anyone. I'm with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club--I don't waste my love on a country. It's where I live. Not who I am or what I'm about. My concern is for humans and, above all, humanness. It's so apparent, though, that these two have no concern for anyone or anyone they technically represent. Anything Trump does is for Trump. To have it come back to him. I don't think he could perform a solitary act of good faith from his heart. And I think Musk is worse. And Vance is perhaps worse.
The part of the press conference when Vance started berating Zelenskyy about saying thank you might have been the worst of it. He was talking to him as if he wanted to make him feel like a five-year-old. But this is the world we're getting now. We have killed off merit, we have made intelligence obsolete, and we hate and fear nothing like we hate and fear greatness in someone else because of how that makes us feel about ourselves. This is the age of seeking comfort in parallelism. Liking people solely because they are no smarter than us, no more talented than us, no better than us. This is what you get. You get a society where everything sucks to a more or less equal degree. A sludge of just suck. You get suffering, disconnection, depression, corruption, shallowness, lack of agency and mobility, loneliness, weakness, brokenness.
