Found a nice audio version of Wodehouse's Ring for Jeeves with Martin Jarvis, who was so memorable in that reading of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" that I love--one of my all-time favorite spoken word recordings. I listen to it like it's music. I can listen to some stories hundreds of times--make that indefinitely.
Ring for Jeeves is one of the two of the eleven Jeeves novels that are not narrated by Bertie Wooster, who is not even in the book, though he's mentioned. Jeeves is temporarily working for Bill Belfry, Lord Rowcester, shortly after WWII. Belfry has money problems and must liquidate. There are ghosts.
Bruins drubbed again Thursday night out in Vegas by a score of 5-1. Swayman's save percentage on the night: .844. The market-setter! His GAA for the season is now over 3.00. What a brutal year.
UConn did indeed beat BU--handily--and Maine needed double OT to dispatch a pesky Huskies team, which makes me feel a bit better about BC's loss to them, while also making me wonder--with their showing in these last two games--why Northeastern wasn't better this year. Then again, their goalie had a hell of a couple games. They fell behind for the second game in a row, but it didn't matter--they were in control of the play. Maine won the Hockey East title last night, which was well-deserved. Two Hockey East teams will be awarded number one seeds for the national tournament, with the second of those number one seeds in Maine playing better than the first number one seed in Boston College.
Why is the ACC so bad at basketball? Was surprised Clemson made it as close as they did against McNeese State after scoring only 13 points in the first half, which barely seems possible.
The Patriots may sign Stefon Diggs. They shouldn't. Not at that age, at that position, coming off of that injury. Nor is he a culture-building player, unless you're talking a bad culture.
Celtics were sold. There are lots of frauds out there--almost everyone is a fraud--but there is no bigger fraud in the history of Boston sports ownership than Wyc Grousbeck, who pretended to own the Celtics, but in reality, his rich daddy gave it to him like a toy for him to play with and act like he was the boss of and he, Wyc, led everyone to believe he was the owner.
Continues to floor me how so many people think the Red Sox will be a good team and likely a playoff team. I haven't encountered any remark to the contrary. I don't see it, man. Hope I'm wrong. The injuries to the Yankees have intensified these types of Red Sox predictions. I see problems all over the place with this team. Holes.
I'm watching Dope Thief on Apple TV+. I don't really understand shows like this. It's all old ground, but I guess they--the people behind it--think it's different because two guys pretend to be DEA agents to steal and sell people's drugs? But that's just an excuse for the show to exist, because that idea is rendered moot early on, then it's just another drug war thing with a gang of angry bikers. I'm never much into things like this. I'll end up thinking, "Don't pretend to be DEA agents who steal drugs, problems solved, and no show."
Saw the end of the second series of Severance. Not a big deal. A lot of raking over the coals of The Prisoner.
Saw this:
I walked into the visitor’s center of a national park today and almost wept when I saw the park ranger 😭
Followed by an attempt at virtue signaling one-upmanship in this:
I visited Philadelphia last week and went to Constitution Hall and did weep when I saw the park rangers there.
Get them points! Get them points! Get them points! Get them points! Get them points! Get those credit points!!!!!! Get that attention!!!! Whatever it takes!
People are dead inside. There is nothing real about them. The thing is, too, the people who posts things like this are always horrible, soulless people. Wouldn't rescue a dying baby if there was no one there to give them credit for it.
Says the person who actually does speak to rangers every day about a bunch of things, including how they're doing. Imagine me going on social media looking for points for that? It's inconceivable.
I wish there was a good Little Walter live album.
Felt better than I have been feeling Thursday and Friday. I haven't been up for long now and it always hurts more in the morning so I can't say about today yet. I ran five circuits of stairs in the Monument each of the last three days. It was crowded each time--twenty-five high school students Thursday and then more field trippers yesterday. I've now done 520 circuits of stairs in the Monument since August 15.
Think I'm going to get my niece Lilah a Lucy M. Boston book for her ninth birthday next month.
The year is almost a quarter of the way over. You see how fast everything goes.
