Buddy calls, Bruins goalies, busting crime

Tuesday 6/25/24

Phone rang this morning. It said "home Mom" so I answered, and when I did so I was greeted by a voice that said, "Hi buddy!" I said, "Hi buddy!" back. Amelia was over at Grammie's house before Grammie's eye doctor appointment. Then she asked, "Do you want to call me back on FaceTime?" and I said of course, so I did that. She had a dress that she wanted to show me. Then a couple hours later the phone rang once more, I answered, and I hear, "Hi buddy! I called you again." I said, "I can tell!" She's funny.

Minimal fitness today. 100 push-ups, walked four miles, ran only 1200 stairs. This isn't nearly good enough. I've been out there so many straight days that sometimes I have these days where I just go to go. Get something in rather than take a day off.

Worked on "If You Can't Be Honest," "Go and Come Back," and "Dead Thomas."

The Bruins traded Linus Ullmark. Finally. But for whatever reason they took back a thirty-year-old goalie who often has a save percentage under .900 for like three million dollars. Why? Why must so much money be tied up in this position? Goalies are now like running backs in the NFL. You can find them. They're less important than they used to be. Look who Edmonton almost just won the Cup with, and Bobrovsky was faltering for Florida until his strong showing in Game 7. I'd rather have the guy from Providence up with the parent club. Let Swayman run with the goalie job for sixty games. You know what, though? I sort of feel like guys can't do it anymore. Be the man, then be the man in the playoffs. Like that's just part of us getting weaker. Everyone's too weak to do the things that people used to be able to do.

The classic Three Investigators series was followed up by another series called The Three Investigators Crimebusters. It's still Jupe, Pete, and Bob, but instead of being thirteen or so like before, they're seventeen, they drive--or a couple of them do--and they try and get girls. Or have girlfriends. Pete, for instance, dates a cheerleader. Bob Andrews is this smooth, cool guy that all of the ladies love. Who knew that that was in his future, right?

These books are weird. They can even make one uncomfortable. I think they make a writer like William Arden--for who for both series--uncomfortable. I still read them. They're not the same, but still enjoyable. You're just not in the sweet spot anymore so far as stories about the trio go. The art also took a hit.
